Fires
The Spring Fire that began June 27, 2018 covered 108,000 acres in about 12 days. The fire started by a careless camper who was later charged with arson (and other things) on the west side of La Veta Pass. The fire crossed the mountains and then turned south toward La Veta and north through Mt. Maestas, Silver Mountain and into Sheep Mountain. The fire came to about 8 miles west of Rio Cucharas, just west of Navajo Ranch. Houses burned in Paradise Acres and other places.
Before the Spring Fire, a careless camper in Rio Cucharas caused a burn of 4 or 5 lots in June 2018 between CR 504 and Pico del Questa in or near Lots 613, 595, 596, 597.
